About Journey to ExSCellence
The mission of Journey to ExSCellence 5K is to invest
in direct services and programming that improve the quality of life for Sickle Cell Warriors by bridging the gap between awareness and advocacy to direct support for people living
with Sickle Cell Disease.
Our vision is for every Sickle Cell Warrior to receive the
medical, social, financial, and professional services
needed to alleviate external stressors that negatively
impact their daily lives.
What is Sickle Cell?
Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited and life-threatening disorder where red blood cells become hard, sticky, and deformed like sickles used to cut wheat. These “sickled” cells clog small blood vessels and break apart. This can cause excruciating pain, stroke, organ damage, and anemia.
