About Journey to ExSCellence
The mission of Journey to ExSCellence, Inc. is to invest in and provide direct services and programming that improve the quality of life for adult Sickle Cell Warriors. We exist to bridge gaps between awareness and advocacy, identify unmet needs within the sickle cell community, and transform those gaps into opportunities for direct support and empowerment.
Our vision is for every Sickle Cell Warrior to receive the
medical, social, financial, and professional services
needed to alleviate external stressors that negatively
impact their daily lives.
What is Sickle Cell?
Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited and life-threatening disorder where red blood cells become hard, sticky, and deformed like sickles used to cut wheat. These “sickled” cells clog small blood vessels and break apart. This can cause excruciating pain, stroke, organ damage, and anemia.
